Each phase of the program will build on the preceding session. The program begins with an introductory 6-class session.
The introductory session introduces the hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic scent to the dog through a process called imprinting. When imprinting is completed, scent recognition is reinforced and an alert to the scent is trained.
After completing this introductory session, participants becomes eligible for advanced training focusing on more complicated training issues such as reinforcing and expanding public access training—teaching the dog to alert both at night and in the car, as well as continuing to reinforce the basics.
